Packing & Gear
Pack light layers, not bulk. Essentials: a sun hat, sunglasses, high-SPF reef-friendly sunscreen and a long-sleeve rash guard, since the equatorial sun is intense; a light rain or wind jacket and a fleece for cool-season evenings and deck time; and quick-dry clothes.

Bring water shoes or sports sandals with straps for wet landings, plus closed shoes with good grip for sharp lava trails. Add a small dry bag for panga rides, binoculars, motion-sickness medicine and a refillable water bottle.
Keep prescriptions and a change of clothes in your carry-on. Island flights have checked-baggage weight limits that vary by airline and fare, so check before you pack, and expect limited laundry on board.
Check your sunscreen label before you pack: since August 2026, park rules (Resolution MAE-PNG/DIR-2026‑0044-RM) restrict sunscreens containing oxybenzone or octinoxate during water activities in the protected areas, and park rangers may inspect bags at visitor-site control points. A rash guard also means less sunscreen in the water. Our pre-trip packing list already reflects the new rules, and we review it with you before you fly. See what else changed in 2026.
